Carindale’s hidden enchanted forest

Have you ever driven past Carindale and wondered if there was more to the area than just suburban homes, beautiful parks and roads? Well, it turns out that there is, and it's in the form of an enchanted forest.

Located on Belmont Hill, this section of private property covers a large proportion of the area and is home to a variety of flora and fauna that you may have only seen in the movies. During my recent visit, I was able to spot a yellow breasted robin, a black falcon, swamp wallabies, and even a net casting spider.

What's even more remarkable is that this forest wasn't always here. In fact, it was a former pineapple farm before Nancy Cramond and her family took it upon themselves to regenerate the land and create an oasis for nature to thrive. Since the 1960s, the Cramonds have been working hard to preserve the area between Ewer St and Scrub Rd and transform it into a beautiful reserve.

Grandview Pl Park playground replacement

Some residents may remember that the playground at Grandview Place Park had been fenced off for many months.

Council officers assessed the tree in November last year and found that the Crow’s Ash Tree which the playground sits beneath is becoming unstable and recommended the playground be removed.

Despite the removal, I’m pleased to advise that I have secured funding for the playground to be replaced this financial year.

I’m proud to announce that as part of Council’s 2022/23 Budget, we are investing $275,000 into reconstructing the Baynes St to Breadsell St section of the Bulimba Creek Bikeway.

Court decision on Greendale Village Shopping Centre

The site of the proposed Greendale Village Shopping Centre sat almost dormant for thirteen years until June this year when vegetation was cleared and boundary fencing was erected around the site.

After many extensions, an appeal and subsequent court order, the development has been granted a further 2 year extension to start construction on the site.

Hopefully in the coming months construction will start and by the end of 2023, Carindale residents will have a new local shopping centre to call their own.

OzHarvest Brisbane is making a real difference in Queensland

Last week I went with Shannon from OzHarvest Brisbane to pick up and deliver food to Brisbane Youth Service in Winstanley St.

We talked about how reducing food waste helps combat climate change and how over 7.3 million tonnes of food are wasted each year in Australia. OzHarvest takes food that isn't usually sellable and gives it to charities and organisations that help feed hungry bellies.
