Coochin Place Park Upgrade begins

Prior to the last election, I committed to upgrading parks in the estate off Bognor Road, as many of the parks in this estate have not been upgraded since they were installed in the mid 90s!

Last year we completed a major upgrade of Monterey Circuit Park and installed a new Dog-Off-Leash area in Robinson Park. The situation is improving, but there is still more work to be done.

Hemmant-Lytton Neighbourhood Plan Project Update

In mid-2015, Brisbane City Council undertook public consultation on the draft Hemmant-Lytton Neighbourhood Plan. Thank you to all those who provided feedback, which has continued to help guide future development and infrastructure plans for the area.

Council has reviewed the submissions received during the public consultation period and has made changes to the draft plan as a result. Council has also responded to all those who made a submission.

Brisbane Metro Subway System is one of Brisbane’s most significant public transport projects.

With much of the inner-city bus network already at capacity, Brisbane Metro Subway System will deliver a high-frequency subway system that will cut travel times, reduce CBD congestion and provide more buses to the suburbs.

Brisbane Metro Subway System will use existing northern and south east busway infrastructure as well as dedicated roads and tunnels to avoid road network congestion.

Brisbane City Council is upgrading the intersection at New Cleveland Road and Caladium Street to reduce congestion and increase road safety and accessibility for all road users.

New Cleveland Road was identified as a corridor requiring improvements to reduce congestion and improve safety under the Gumdale Area Traffic Study 2010.

Temporary parking restrictions for Christmas lights displays

In previous years, Council has erected ‘No Standing’ signs in Brandella Place, Belmont and Abbeyfeale Street, Tingalpa to alleviate illegal parking issues in the lead up to Christmas. This will continue and signs will be installed this week.

However, this year we will be taking the additional step of providing traffic management from 5pm to 10pm, from 19 December 2015 to Christmas Eve, 24 December 2015.

The Lord Mayor’s 2015-16 Budget has allocated funds to finish designs for the much-needed upgrade of Green Camp Road, between Rickertt Road and Manly Road.

This work will set the proposed road alignment and determine a more accurate cost of constructing this important link in our local road network, so that Council can plan ahead to secure funds.

A new chapter for the Carina Library is about to be written, with Brisbane City Council soon commencing major upgrade works at the facility.

Lifestyle Chairman Krista Adams said the $778,000 project would include a complete refurbishment to modernise the library and enhance its overall look and feel.

“Our libraries are no longer just a place to borrow books, they have become bustling community hubs offering a range of services and entertainment for local residents,” Cr Adams said.

Recently the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) undertook a redivision of Brisbane City Council wards, to bring wards into population quotas.

Despite Doboy being within quota, changes to other wards had flow on effects to this ward, which included a proposal to split Wakerley down the unformed alignment of Tilley Road.

The park is named in honour of Tingalpa local Kevin Whitmee, who is well known in the district for his long standing contribution to Tingalpa State School, the Belmont Tingalpa Lions Club and various charity and philanthropic causes.
