Update on Carindale Major Centre Plan

As Brisbane continues to grow, it's important that we plan for the future in a way that protects the lifestyles we value, while ensuring our city remains affordable, connected and liveable.

The Carindale Major Centre Plan is designed to support future housing, jobs and services in a location already well served by infrastructure and public transport, while protecting the character of surrounding residential neighbourhoods. The plan forms part of Council's broader review of Brisbane's major centres to accommodate growth in the right locations.

Community consultation

Earlier this year, residents were invited to have their say on the proposed changes, and I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback.

Community feedback has played an important role in shaping the proposal, and I am pleased to see residents' voices reflected in the changes that have been made.

While a range of views were expressed during consultation, the overall feedback received was constructive and helped inform the refinement of the proposal. Importantly, the consultation process was open to all residents, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to have their say. The changes made following consultation demonstrate that community feedback was carefully considered as part of the process.

The consultation report can be found HERE.

Where we are now

Several changes have been made to the proposal, including reducing the proposed maximum building height from 30 storeys to 25 storeys within the centre and strengthening transition requirements near residential areas.

The plan also includes measures to improve building design, encourage active and vibrant streets, enhance connections for pedestrians and cyclists, and better integrate future public transport infrastructure.

As your local Councillor, I remain committed to keeping our community informed throughout the next stages of the process and advocating for outcomes that strike the right balance between future growth and the liveability that makes Carindale such a great place to call home.

I will continue to provide updates as the Carindale Major Centre Plan progresses.

What happens next

The Queensland Government will now review the proposed amendment, which may be subject to further changes.

If approved, Council will make its final decision about adopting the amendment into the City Plan to guide and assess property development.

Once that stage of the process has been completed, the community will be able to view the final adopted amendments.

Find more information about the proposed Indooroopilly, Carindale and Nundah major centres amendment, including a timeline of its progress on Council’s website.
