The results are in from the Tilley Rd Survey
Tilley Rd, Gumdale
To improve road safety in Gumdale, I proposed lowering the speed limit on Tilley Road between Old Cleveland Road and Formosa Road from 70 km/h to 60 km/h.
Queensland Police records show that 27 crashes were reported along this section of road between 2021 and 2025. These figures only include incidents reported to the Queensland Police Service, meaning the actual number of crashes are likely higher.
To ensure the community had an opportunity to have their say, a survey was conducted seeking feedback on the proposed speed limit reduction.
The results are in.

The results showed community support with 63% of people who live on or streets adjoining Tilley Rd supported reducing the speed and 53% of all respondents supported reducing the speed limit from 70 km/h to 60 km/h
Speed plays an important role in driver reaction times and road safety outcomes. Reducing the speed limit would provide motorists with additional time to respond to changing road conditions, particularly when approaching intersections and other potential hazards.

What’s next?
Council will now write to the State Government’s Speed Management Committee (SMC) asking them to approve this change.
The committee is made up of representatives from the QLD Police, Department of Transport and Main Roads and Council. The committee will verify that due process has been followed and will consider whether the recommendation is consistent, practical and likely to achieve compliance across the network.
I will notify residents of the SMC’s decision once I know.
