Results of the Donnington St Speed Increase Survey

Back in August, after being contacted by local residents asking me to increase the speed limit on Donnington St, Carindale, I asked the wider community for their feedback.

Donnington St has been 50km/hr for the last decade, and one of the clearest things I have taken out of this survey is that many locals didn’t know that. A significant number of residents told me they had assumed the street was already a 60km/hr road.

The road connects Winstanley St and Creek Rd, and I know it is well used by local residents and by bus services.

It has a wide, open cross-section, which is why Council officers advised me it was capable of operating as a 60km/hr road.

To make sure the community had an opportunity to have their say, I conducted a survey seeking feedback on the proposed speed limit increase.

Now, the results are in.

What you told me

The results showed clear support for keeping the speed limit as it is, with 60% of local residents who live on or in streets adjoining Donnington supporting keeping the speed limit the same.

65% of residents in the surrounding suburbs also supported keeping the current speed limit.

When I launched this survey, I said the change would only proceed with the approval of residents in and around Donnington St, and the results are clear.

In fact, the main concern locals raised with me was the speeding that occurs along the street.

I have been in touch with the Carina police station and have requested regular enforcement action. I have also arranged for the Speed Awareness Monitor (SAM) sign to be returned to Donnington St in October this year.

Thank you to all the local residents who took the time to participate in the survey and share their feedback with me. Your input is invaluable in helping to inform decisions that affect our local community.
