Kerbside collection resumes - updated dates March 2022

I’m pleased to announce that kerbside collection is resuming after being temporarily paused to assist in the cleanup of the floods.

The flood affected items cleanup collected nearly 50,000 tonnes of waste and was very successful in helping clean up Brisbane.

Under our new schedule, the suburbs skipped over the pause period are having their annual collection rescheduled to the Easter School Holidays.

This means that for the majority of residents in Chandler Ward, collection will take place on either the 4th April or the 11th of April.

The schedule for the return can be found in the photo above or alternatively at the bottom of this article as well as some quick collection guidelines and acceptable items list.

For those that are new or are unfamiliar with kerbside collection, it’s Council’s large item collection service that gathers unwanted household items that are often too big for wheelie bins (and too hard to take to the tip).

Simply place the items for collection on the kerbside infront of your home the weekend before your collection starts.

Items have to be on the kerb by 6am at the start of the collection period, as this is when trucks come to collect.

Kerbside Collection Guidelines

When putting items out for collection on the kerb, it’s always important to remember:

  • to keep your piles of items tidy on the kerb - make sure the footpath and roadway are clear

  • Council will not collect piles larger than two cubic metres (equal to a small box trailer load)

  • to remove doors from refrigerators and cupboards

  • to not leave sharp or dangerous items on the footpath

  • that items must be able to be easily and safely lifted by two people

  • to secure items if severe weather is expected.

Acceptable Kerbside Items

It’s important to note that Council only collects acceptable items placed on the kerb. If items remain seven days after your kerbside collection period has ended, illegal dumping fines may apply. The list of acceptable items can be found below:

  • Bath and laundry tubs

  • Bicycles and sporting equipment

  • Carpets and rugs

  • Electronic waste (televisions, computers, phones)

  • Furniture and white goods (fridges, stoves)

  • Small household appliances (fans, toasters)

  • Wood products less than 1.5m

More Information

If you have any items in a usable condition, I would encourage you to donate the item to friends, family or even a local charity who may be able to recycle goods for those less fortunate.

Those affected by flooding are in need of a whole range of food, cash, white goods and other items.

You can see all requests for support/donations or register something you have to donate by heading to GIVIT here.

GIVIT is the official Government partner for donations towards the 2022 Flood Recovery.

If you have any old devices that you don't use anymore (that are working), please drop them off to my office so that we're able to provide much needed assistance to families across SEQ.

Alternatively, a list of local charities that you can donate these items to can be found at the bottom of Council’s page on kerbside collection here.

I wish the best of luck to everyone cleaning out and hope that it all goes well! Happy clean out season!
