Important Flood Recovery Information

The past week has been extremely tough for all of South East Queensland and Northern NSW.

With such an unexpected and devastating event, Council is doing its best to respond to the impacts the flood has had on our city.

In this article you'll find a package of the most up-to-date information regarding Council services, activities and flood recovery (including the Mud Army 2.0!)

If you would like to donate or support flood affected victims, scroll to the bottom of this article where you can find a whole range of ways to help.

To all reading this - I hope you and your families have stayed safe & relatively dry over the last few days. Here's hoping that we will all be on the other side of this next week.

If you are in need of any assistance, please, please don't hesitate to contact my office on (07) 3407 1400 or via email at chandler.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au

Below is the most up-to-date information regarding Council services, activities and flood recovery.

All bin collections are now continuing as normal. Residents who were affected by the pause of services on Monday the 28th are able to take their waste to the tip for free.

Kerbside collection has been temporarily paused to prioritise the cleanup of flood affected material. As soon as the dates have been rescheduled I will let you know. In the meantime, you can collect free tip vouchers from my office.

Large items affected by the flood can now be left on the kerb for collection or taken to the Council's resource recovery centres for free. Please make sure you follow kerbside collection guidelines which can be found here.

If you're out and about you can help by reporting potholes, road failures or fallen trees to the Contact Centre on (07) 3403 8888. You can also take a photo and text the details of the issue to 0429 234 948.

If you'd like to join the Mud Army 2.0 or request assistance for a cleanup when they begin work, you can register here.

There are a few bus routes that have been restored. As of now these include:

  • Routes 30, 61 and 66

  • Routes 111, 112, 116, 130, 135, 170, 172, 174, 175, 180, 184, 185

  • Routes 200, 202, 203, 204, 209, 210, 212, 215, 220, 222, 223, 224, 225, 227, 230 and 232

  • Route 590 (Garden City to Cannon Hill only)

As flood waters continue to subside further routes will be added. Please keep an eye on the Translink website and app for these changes.

Ways to help

Those affected by flooding are in need of a whole range of food, cash, white goods and other items.

You can see all requests for support/donations or register something you have to donate by heading to GIVIT here.

GIVIT is the official Government partner for donations towards the 2022 Flood Recovery.

If you have any old devices that you don't use anymore (that are working), please drop them off to my office so that we're able to provide much needed assistance to families across SEQ.

If you'd like to join the Mud Army 2.0 or request assistance for a cleanup when they begin work, you can register here.
