Meals on Wheels site to be named McFarlane Reserve
Local identity Bill McFarlane will be honoured by Brisbane City Council, with a park at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley set to be named after him.
Mr McFarlane, now ninety two (92) is the past president of the now defunct Wynnum and Districts Marching Girls Association.
New milestone for Cannon Hill Links
The Cannon Hill Community Links project has met another milestone, with construction on the golf course and residential subdivision now commencing.
Works are expected to take three years, concluding in 2019.

With 82.72% of the vote counted, it appears we have retained Doboy Ward. In fact; we increased our margin.

Upgrade of New Cleveland Road & Caladium Street
Brisbane City Council is upgrading the intersection at New Cleveland Road and Caladium Street to reduce congestion and increase road safety and accessibility for all road users.
New Cleveland Road was identified as a corridor requiring improvements to reduce congestion and improve safety under the Gumdale Area Traffic Study 2010.
Temporary parking restrictions for Christmas lights displays
In previous years, Council has erected ‘No Standing’ signs in Brandella Place, Belmont and Abbeyfeale Street, Tingalpa to alleviate illegal parking issues in the lead up to Christmas. This will continue and signs will be installed this week.
However, this year we will be taking the additional step of providing traffic management from 5pm to 10pm, from 19 December 2015 to Christmas Eve, 24 December 2015.
Council builds new park in Wakerley
A new playground is set to be built in Behan Crescent Park in Wakerley. The installation will begin on Monday 2 November 2015, weather permitting.
Council's Annual Budget has allocated $122,000 for these works, which will complete a all parks east of Arenga Street.
Haunted Ranch in Tingalpa for Halloween
If you're looking for somewhere to take the kids for Halloween this Saturday night, be sure to check out Damon & Jenne Horton's The Haunted Ranch on Ranch St, Tingalpa.
They ask for a gold coin donation and all funds raised go to the Cerebral Palsy League.
Cannon Hill Community Links October Update
Last week I visited the site of the Fursden Road Landfill Remediation Project at Cannon Hill.
The site stopped accepting waste in 1977, but the capping at the time didn't stop rainwater from seeping through the waste and making its way into Bulimba Creek.
Inland Rail proposal “diabolical” for Eastern suburbs
Over ten thousand Doboy Ward residents are in the firing line of the Federal Government's proposal to build a new dual gauge rail freight line up the Gateway Motorway.
On 11 September 2015, the Federal Government (via their wholly owned subsidiary Australian Rail Track Corporation, ARTC) released a delivery plan to the start the design and construction of a continuous inland railway link between Melbourne and Brisbane.
Green Camp Road Upgrade Plans
The Lord Mayor’s 2015-16 Budget has allocated funds to finish designs for the much-needed upgrade of Green Camp Road, between Rickertt Road and Manly Road.
This work will set the proposed road alignment and determine a more accurate cost of constructing this important link in our local road network, so that Council can plan ahead to secure funds.
Carina Library Upgrade gets underway
A new chapter for the Carina Library is about to be written, with Brisbane City Council soon commencing major upgrade works at the facility.
Lifestyle Chairman Krista Adams said the $778,000 project would include a complete refurbishment to modernise the library and enhance its overall look and feel.
“Our libraries are no longer just a place to borrow books, they have become bustling community hubs offering a range of services and entertainment for local residents,” Cr Adams said.
ECQ release final Doboy boundaries
Recently the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) undertook a redivision of Brisbane City Council wards, to bring wards into population quotas.
Despite Doboy being within quota, changes to other wards had flow on effects to this ward, which included a proposal to split Wakerley down the unformed alignment of Tilley Road.
Safer streets for Doboy with portable speed warning signs
Councils Portable Speed Warning Sign (PSWS) program has been given a significant boost in this year’s budget with $30,000 allocated to purchase new signs and add additional locations to the list.
Murarrie Boundary Review in final stages
You may recall Council proposed boundary changes which if approved, would see the Murarrie suburb boundary shift from Barrack Road to Creek Road, bringing Park Hill Village into the suburb boundaries of Cannon Hill.
Kevin Whitmee Park set to open
Kevin Whitmee Park is set to open to the public on 22 August 2015.
The park is named in honour of Tingalpa local Kevin Whitmee, who is well known in the district for his long standing contribution to Tingalpa State School, the Belmont Tingalpa Lions Club and various charity and philanthropic causes.

Cannon Hill Community Links Update
Brisbane City Council is working with BMD Properties Pty Ltd (BMD) to deliver a public golf course and residential precinct in Cannon Hill.
The new public golf course will be Brisbane's first public golf course in 70 years and the only public golf course south of the Brisbane River. The golf course will be similar in specification to Council's existing golf courses such as St Lucia and Victoria Park.
Don’t break up Wakerley!
The ECQ has released its proposed boundaries for the 2015 redistribution and both Cr Adrian Schrinner (Chandler Ward) and I hold significant concerns about how the changes affect Wakerley.
The Commission are now calling for objections to their proposed boundaries and we have until 5pm on Monday 3 August 2015 to let them know. I’m asking all concerned residents to make a submission.
Hemmant-Lytton Neighbourhood Plan out for consultation
The State Government has approved the Hemmant-Lytton Neighbourhood Plan to proceed to public notification, meaning residents now have an opportunity to make further submissions.
