Recycling in Brisbane

What happens to my recycling?

What happens to my recycling?

I realise there has been a lot of attention lately on changes to recycling at other councils.

Brisbane residents do an excellent job at reducing waste and keeping our recycling sorted. I want to assure everyone these changes at other councils do not affect Brisbane residents.

In your yellow-top bin, you can recycle:

  • paper,

  • cardboard,

  • metal (aluminium and steel),

  • firm plastic packaging, and

  • glass packaging materials.

Remember to never place any of the following items in your yellow-top bin:

  • plastic bags,

  • nappies,

  • kitchen food scraps,

  • textiles,

  • batteries, or

  • garden waste.

How recycling works in Brisbane

This video gives insight into how our recycling partner sorts materials placed each day in our city's much loved yellow-top bins.

Thanks for your efforts to keep Brisbane clean, green and sustainable.
