Newnham & Wecker Rd project update - June 2022

An artists' impression of Newnham and Wecker Rd

Works almost completed

The construction of the Newnham Rd and Wecker Rd intersection upgrade are progressing well despite ongoing setbacks with Brisbane weather.

Work on the eastern side of Newnham Rd are almost complete. This includes utility relocation, drainage improvements and footpath upgrades.

Works coming up

Works on the western side of Newnham Rd will soon commence and be widened to accommodate the intersection upgrade.

These works will improve access for pedestrians and cyclists by providing a new shared path along Newnham Rd.

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge across Bulimba Creek in Graham Lord Park will also take place for greater connectivity and safety of cyclists and pedestrians.

See the project plan to the right for further details on the location of these works.

Expected completion timelines

The intersection upgrade is expected to be completed, with fully operational traffic signals, in mid-2022, weather and site conditions permitting.

The shared pedestrian and cycle bridge construction will then begin in mid-2022, set to be complete early 2023, weather and site conditions permitting once again.

I look forward to seeing how this completed project will improve safety, connectivity, reduce congestion and ensure the intersection can cater to future traffic demands for the local community for many years to come.
