The detailed design for the Newham and Wecker Road upgrade.

Early works for Council’s Newnham & Wecker Road Upgrade will commence later this year after the Federal Government allocated $12 million to overhaul the intersection to improve its operation and safety.

Council has now released the detailed design of the upgrade, which will ensure that the intersection can cater to future traffic demands.

The work will include the widening of the existing road as well as including additional infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.

The project will also see new parkland added with the resumption of several properties along Newnham Road.

Council has just finished its detailed design of the upgrade that will help the flow of 35,000 vehicles, 474 buses, 55 cyclists and 186 pedestrians through the intersection every day. The project will involve:

✓ A new right turn lane into Wecker Rd from Newnham Rd (northbound)

✓ An additional right turn lane from Wecker Rd into Newnham Rd (northbound)

✓ A new signalised pedestrian crossing of the left turn slip lane on Newnham Rd (southbound)

✓ Coordination of traffic lights at Newnham Rd/Creek Rd and the new intersection
