Construction of new shade sails at Bill McFarlane Park

Bill McFarlane Park playground nodes to be shaded. Source: Nearmap

Over the last year, I have received multiple requests for the playground in Bill McFarlane Park (off Olsen Cres) to be shaded, and I’m happy to say that new shade sails will be installed soon.

This $157,000 investment will see more than 500m2 of area shaded with commercial grade UV blocking fabric, covering both playground nodes.

More shade means cooler play equipment and less exposure to the harsh Queensland sun, making the playground safer for kids to play, learn and grow.

The shade sails will start to go in on Monday, August 8th and will wrap up by Friday, September 8th, 2022.

Construction will impact a section of the playground within the park throughout the duration of this project with temporary fencing and signage to be erected

The shade sails will be hexagonal and span over the footpath and playground structure.
