WAKERLEY DISTRICT SPORTS PARK - SITE PLAN - DECEMBER 2017

WAKERLEY DISTRICT SPORTS PARK - SITE PLAN - DECEMBER 2017

Wakerley District Sports Park Project Introduction

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has unveiled plans for new sports parks across the suburbs of Brisbane as part of a $351 million budget commitment to enhance Brisbane’s leisure and lifestyle opportunities.

The new facilities are part of a sporting package that includes a new netball precinct at Wakerley.

Brisbane City Council is planning to construct a $1.9m high quality sporting precinct at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley which will provide increased sporting and active space facilities for Wakerley and surrounding Bayside suburbs.

Council has identified that there is a demand in the area for netball facilities and as such will deliver a new district sports park to cater for this need.

It is proposed that the sports park component of the project will involve installing:

  • a sporting clubhouse (within the lower story of the Meals on Wheels (MoW) building

  • toilet and change room amenities

  • eight hardstand netball courts with lighting

  • a small practise area

  • a carpark extension

  • a bus drop-off bay on Manly Road

  • an informal recreation area with a small playground

  • a connecting pedestrian and cyclist pathway

  • landscaping

The project is in line with Council’s Brisbane Vision 2031 of becoming a clean and green, well designed subtropical and active and healthy city.

Council is working closely with the Wynnum Manly District Meals on Wheels Association Inc. (MoW) to deliver a new commercial kitchen facility, which will also house a sporting club house leased by Council.

Council is progressing the design for the project with construction anticipated to start in late 2018, weather and site conditions permitting.

Council is committed to keeping local residents informed of construction activity in their area and will provide advance notification prior to the start of construction for the project.
