Carindale’s amazing hidden creeks

Last weekend I had the joy of joining Citipointe Childcare and Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C) as they took part in Council’s Creek Neighbours Program at Bulimba Creek.

The Creek Neighbours Program is an educational program that is designed to connect kindergarten aged children, their parents and the community to their local creek catchment in order to foster environmental stewardship of the natural areas across Brisbane.

In 2021, Citipointe Kindergarten in Carindale were selected to participate in the program, with a celebration day being held behind the Citipointe Christian College playing fields in Bulimba Creek.

The kids learned about the plants and animals by the creek and how we can help look after our environment.

It was great to see them all getting so involved in learning more about our great natural habitat and taking the time to plant trees along the embankment. We even tried to catch a few fish with our nets before racing seed pods down the stream!

Council also offers a program like this tailored to Grade 4 and 5 students that is currently run across Brisbane called the Bush Neighbours program.

The Bush Neighbours Program creates an awareness of the importance of bushland reserves, the schoolyard and the student’s own back yard. Students learn how to conserve habitat, keep bushland areas and waterways free from pollution and create wildlife friendly gardens.
