I'm pleased to advise that after significant delays, work is finally progressing on the Wakerley Meals on Wheels and Netball Courts.

In July last year, I announced Council would be investing $1.4M for a new Netball facility on the Bayside, by building eight new hardcourts alongside the new Meals on Wheels facility at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley.

This investment underscores the popularity of Netball as the fastest growing girls sport in the country.

Some local residents viewed Council's original concept plan (comprising eight courts) as an overdevelopment of the site,

given the signficiant requirement for new car parking.

Feedback from other netball clubs operating in the area supported this view and as such, the proposal has been scaled back to six courts and an associated practice area.

This final proposal represents a good balance of usability for Netball and development sensitive to local residents and the Meals on Wheels facility.

It features 135 car parks in total, an increase of 87 over and above the existing car park.

You can view the proposal here.

Council recently issued an information request, asking for further detail on a range of measures including road widening, streetscape designed, earthworks and ecology.

This means the Development Application process is now winding down towards completion and a decision is likely soon.

If the application is successful, works will commence shortly after construction of the Meals on Wheels facility is completed, due in April 2019, weather permitting.
