Wakerley Updates: Basketball court and Dog-off leash area

As many know, I was recently approached by a Year 10 student, Sam Atkins. Sam identified that the Mossvale Estate at Wakerley was in need of park facilities to cater for both teenagers and adults, and suggested a basketball court.

He set up an e-petition calling on Council to install a basketball court within the estate.

The petition received 226 signatures and called for Council to work with the residents of the Mossvale on Manly Estate to install a basketball court within the estate.

Carina Bus Depot Upgrade: December Update

Prior to the 2016 Council Election, I committed to refurbishing the Carina Bus Depot on Creek Rd, Carina.

The Carina Bus Depot is at the heart of our community, but as one of Council’s oldest bus depots, it’s become a tired eyesore on the local landscape.

I’m pleased to advise construction has now begun to upgrade the facilities. We will deliver a bus depot that residents can be proud of.

Traffic Survey results are in for Tingalpa’s “rat run”

In 2014, Council acted on local resident's feedback to remove 50% of the traffic calming platforms on Thurston and Castlerea Streets, to improve traffic flows and reduce the impact on bus services.

While feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, I did want to ensure that we had an opportunity to review the traffic counts after the revised traffic calming had been in operation for some time.

Carina receives Doboy’s first LED Warning Signs

In mid-2016, Council announced a commitment of $3.24 million to fund a four-year Light Emitting Diode (LED) Road Signs program. This new road safety program involves the installation of LED road signs at known accident hotspots throughout Brisbane.

As your local Councillor, I am aware that rollovers and collisions are an issue along Creek Road and as such, I have arranged to have a slowdown LED road sign installed to address this.

Council is proposing to install the permanent LED road sign northbound on Creek Road, just past the D’Arcy Road intersection, during March 2017

Wakerley’s wait for dog park almost over

Prior to the last Council election, I received a Change.org petition signed by over 200 Wakerley residents requesting Council provide a dog off-leash area for the Mossvale Estate.

Council has assessed six local parks within Mossvale Estate as to their suitability for an off-leash area. These include Torrens Crescent Park, Mossvale Drive Park, Barwin Street Park, Yarra Road Park, Watervale Parade Park and Moss Road Park.

Due to a variety of environmental and constructability factors, Watervale Parade Park was the only suitable location identified.
